Advocacy: Inadequate Sentencing In GBV Cases

#Justice4Naledi trended in the hopes to highlight the case of Naledi Phangindawo, a woman who was gruesomely murdered by Obed Leshoro. Recently, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with little clarity on whether or not he would be eligible for parole. This contravenes the promise from President Cyril Ramaphosa that perpetrators of GBV would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and sentenced at the maximum recommendation of the law.

We’ve written to the Department of Justice regarding the lack of implementation of this promise, among other topics of inadequacies where custodians of the law are concerned.
