Education and Campaigns

Awareness

Public Education & Campaigns seek to change the culture that enables gender discrimination and in particular violence against women and other vulnerable groups.

Exemplary campaigns have included:

This is a multimedia series of videos and images to educate the public about consent. These videos have enjoyed thousands of views reaching many including through public broadcast channels in the news.

Is a campaign that cultivates support from the public for victims/survivors of abuse by requesting them to take a pledge to start by believing victims.

This campaign is about changing the rape culture that has led to more than 60% of rapes going unreported due to how victims are treated when they do report the abuse.

It has also been featured in the Global Citizens website where many more individuals took the pledge and shared their images with others.

This campaign cultivates individuals to demand financial resources be allocated to support the National Strategic Plan on GBV, it is an ongoing campaign that is cultivated alongside national budget speeches.

Access to Legal Support

Advocacy

Access to Justice is #WiseLegal service to many women who are victims/survivors of GBV and seeking legal support from the Courts and through mediation.

Through representing these women, the #WiseLegal team is also building feminist jurisprudence on major cases related to GBV, including but not limited to, the following:

A landmark case at the Constitution Court to demand consequence management for police negligence in the response to and investigation of rape cases.
Defending victims/survivors of rape in defamation lawsuits brought by accused perpetrators who have managed to elude criminal prosecution. The WiseLegal team has represented many in several high courts successfully building case law to view these lawsuits as a form of silencing.
Representing victims/survivors of workplace sexual harassment in formal and informal hearings, at CCMA and Labor Court where unfair dismissal is used as a form of victimizing them for reporting.

Thought Leadership in imagining a society free of violence and discrimination is at the core of Wise 4 Afrika’s agenda.

Guided by the principles of accountability, the organization is committed to contributing positively towards developing a new social justice paradigm where patriarchy and toxic masculinity are non-existent.

From addressing the social drivers of these ills to imagining and articulating aspirations of a South Africa that is free of gender bias and other intersecting inequalities.

Wise 4 Afrika is led by a four-member board that is 100% women.

It is augmented by contracted professional services of an accountant and other technical experts for compliance.
